Short Course Far Westerns March 2012

1768 athletes from 11 states and Canada came out this weekend to Morgan Hill to compete at USA/Pacific Swimming’s 2012 Far Western Short Course Championship Meet. Teams from as far away as New York and Florida were ready to compete at one of the biggest age group meets in the US.

In the 10 and under girls division Caitlin O’Neill shattered team and Tracy records in almost every single one of her events. She took 10th in the 50y Breaststroke with a 36.99, a new team and city record, and she took 15th in the 100y Breaststroke with a 1:22.26. In the 50y Free she took 18th with a new best time of 28.89, and in the 100y Free she placed 26th with a 1:03.97, shattering team records and Tracy’s city age-group records in both. She took 21st in the 200y Free with a 2:19.26. And in the 100y Individual Medley Caitlin went a personal best with a 1:14.16, placing 36th in the event and breaking the Tracy city record. In the 200y I.M. she placed 23rd with a 2:37.14.

Maddie Wittkowske competed in the 11-12 girls division in 3 events over the weekend. In the 500y Freestyle she broke the team record with a 5:39.86, placing 25th in the event and picking up her 15-18 Junior Olympic qualifying time. In the 200y freestyle she placed 45th with a 2:09.39. And in the 200y Butterfly she placed 42nd with a solid 2:34.63.
