We had a great weekend this year at the Spring 2012 Junior Olympic Championships! Although the weather didn't hold up as nice as last Winter that didn't stop any of our athletes from going out there and achieving personal bests. Clay and I were incredibly proud to see every single one of our athletes walk away from this meet with fantastic swims. Once again we were one of the largest teams from the central valley and it was amazing to not just see our athletes qualified for the meet, but picking up second swims all throughout the weekend.

This was the first time for all our participating 12 and unders to make a finals swim at JO's. We know how physically and mentally exhausting it can be to compete in the same event twice, or in Caitlin and Bradley's case to swim the entire meet twice, every day. But they all did amazing.

My personal favorite swims during the meet were Caitlin's 200 IM, where she not only dropped 11 seconds in trials, but an additional 2 seconds in finals! And Cristian's 100 Butterfly where we powered through with his developing stroke to crack the top 25.

Clay was stoked about Maddie's 500 Free where she swam a textbook example of distance freestyle, Keiana's 100 Fly where she able to finish in her fastest second 50 split ever, Kamryn's 100 Free where she shattered her personal best in the event by coming back in a 30 second 2nd 50, Brad's 500 freestyle, and Miguel and Michaela's best unshaved/untapered 100 Breaststrokes.

Caitlin O'Neill shattered her personal bests and many of our 10 and under girls records this weekend. In the 50y free she went a personal best with a 29.32, placing 7th in finals. In the 100y free she went a 1:04.69 placing 2nd in consolations. And in the 200 Free she went 2:18.94 breaking the team record, picking up a western zone consideration time (WZCT), beating her personal best by 7 full seconds, and placing 8th in finals.

In the 50 breaststroke Caitlin went 38.13, another WZCT, winning the consolation heat, placing 9th in the event. In the 100 breast she finished with a 1:21.95, a best time by 3 seconds with a new WZCT and placed 8th in finals.

In the 11-12 girls freestyle events Keiana Fountaine went a best time in the 50y event with a 27.69, with Maddie Wittknowske and Kamryn Lucero right behind her just off personal bests. In the 100y Kamryn Lucero shattered her old personal best and team record with a 58.64, finishing 17th overall and picking up a new far western cut in the process. Maddie and Kamryn both cracked the top 25 in the 200y Free with a respectable 2:09 and 2:10. In the 500y Free Maddie broke the team record with a 5:40.65, (holding an impressive 35 second pace) and placing 17th in the event. Keiana went right on her personal best as well with a 5:50.13.

Maddie Wittkowske also dropped 4 full seconds to get a 2:30.39 in the 200y Backstroke event. She also dropped an additional 2 seconds in the 200y Fly to go 2:29.28, a new team records and finishing with an 8th in finals. Keiana Fountaine dropped 4 seconds in the 100y Fly to go 1:07.92, finishing with an 8th in consolations.

In the 15-18 division Michaela Loomis won the 100 Breaststroke in finals with a 1:07.61, a personal best for not being shaved or tapered. She also had an incredibly strong swim in her 200y Butterfly, placing 4th with a 2:19, a personal best by 5 seconds and a new far western cut for the event.

With the Individual Medley races 17 year old Michaela Loomis dropped nearly 13 seconds in her 400y I.M to go 4:47.78, picking up a 4th in finals! 10 year old Caitlin O'Neill dropped an incredible 12 seconds in the 200y this weekend to go 2:37.06! This was a new Western Zone Consideration time and got her 10th in the event! 12 year old Kamryn was right off her best in the 200y with a 2:32.29. In the 100y I.M. Caitlin dropped a full second to go 1:14.31, placing her 13th.

In the Boys events 10 year old Cristian Munoz was right off a personal bests with a 1:10 in the 100y free, 37.29 in the 50 Back where he finished 22nd, and he went a personal best with a 1:25.23 in the 100y Fly. 16 year old Miguel Munoz went a personal best in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:08.65, breaking the team record and finishing 12th in the event during prelims.

17 year old Bradley McCain also had an incredibly strong meet, finishing 2nd in the 500 Free with a time right off his best, 8th in the 100 Free with a 53.77, 9th in the 200 Free with a 1:57, 8th in the 100 Back with a 1:01.77, and 5th in the 200 Back with a 2:14.
